A Royal Internship, About Me, nanowrimo

Finishing Camp NaNoWriMo

I mentioned before (a little belatedly) that I participated this year in Camp NaNoWriMo for the first time. What I forgot is that it was my first time using the NaNoWriMo website to log my progress!

So last time, I did NaNoWriMo completely disengaged from everyone else doing NaNoWriMo and I think that’s not really how it’s supposed to go! This time around, I had twitter and a blog and friends to write with and it was a lot more fun. The website was pretty easy to use and it was easy to log my daily word counts (which I actually did in several chunks, because I write in bursts).

So this time, with friends around, NaNo felt more of a collective marathon (sprint?) where we were all encouraging each other on as we fell behind or passed by each other. It was nice to have a group of people around who understood the difficulties and joys of writing so much in such a small space of time.

All this to say, my number one learning from Camp NaNo: get yourself a writing crowd. Finding friends, critique partners, and buddies has been a huge help to me, personally, and I suspect to many others.

The second thing is probably just a me thing. I really like math. I like numbers and statistics and graphs. So I love the ability to track my word count and look at stats. After I finished camp, I noticed that you can use their website all year round to keep track of projects and look at statistics, so I think I’m going to give that a try.

Next up: Finishing A Royal Internship, editing it, and getting it ready to post. I’m about halfway there and I love this fun story.
